Food intolerance (also known as food sensitivities) can occur at any age, triggering a wide range of symptoms, food intolerance is different to food allergy.

In food intolerance, the reactions can take up to 72h after eating to occur, multiple foods can be involved, any organ system can be affected, it is very common, difficult to self-diagnose and symptoms can clear after avoidance (3-6 months). Whereas in food allergy, the reactions are immediate (2 hours or less), towards 1 or 2 foods only, primarily skin, airways and digestive system are affected, it is caused by raised IgE antibody and it is lifelong.
